Using Word, you created a multipage document. Now you want to print the sender’s address at the top of every page. At the bottom of every page, you want to show your bank information.

Excel current date function: HOW DOES IT WORK?

Headers and Footers are areas, at the top and bottom of your document, that you can potentially use to present information that you want to show on each page of your document. In both areas, you can place text or graphics. One might want to use these areas to present, for example, the document’s originator, bank data, company logo, page number, the date or the document’s filename.

To insert a Header or a Footer in your document, first click the Insert tab. There you will find the Header & Footer group.

 

In the Header & Footer group, click the button. The following selection catalog will open:

 

Word provides a series of built-in Header styles. You can select any of these built-in Headers with a single click of the mouse. When you do this, Word inserts the header you chose into your document and opens it for you to edit. You can then type in the text you want or insert other elements.

If you want to define a Header in your document without using built-in templates, then you can click the Edit Header option. Word will then insert the Header in your document and open it for individual editing. You can insert text and/or illustrations in this area. You would use the same option, if your document already has a Header that you wish to revisit, i.e., edit or modify.

Clicking this option causes the contents of the Header to be deleted, relieving you of having to individually delete elements you may have placed there.

Now, in the open selection catalog, click the Edit Header option:

 

The Header will be opened. You can now enter and/or edit any text or objects that you want to appear in your document’s Header area. All resources that you have for inserting and editing in the main part of your document are also available here.

In both Header and Footers, you can use the Center and the Right tab stops for aligning your text. These are preset for you, as may be seen on Word’s ruler. Use the [Tab] key to jump from one to another.

When you are satisfied with your Header, you can switch to the Footer. To do that – under Header & Footer Tools, on the Design tab, in the Navigation group – click the button.

The context-dependent Header & Footer Tools only appears, when your cursor is positioned either in the Header or Footer.

Word changes to the Footer area, where, just as in the header area, you can insert whatever sort of text or graphics, etc. you wish to have there.

Instead of using the Go to Footer and Go to Header buttons, you can also use the [PgUp] and [PgDn] keys to jump back and forth between the Header and Footer areas.

You can also get to the Header or Footer areas by double-clicking on the document’s upper or lower edges.

You can close the Header and Footer areas by clicking the button.

Alternatively, you can also close the Header and Footer areas by double-clicking anywhere in the body of the document.
